Words Really Do Create Worlds: Transforming Safety in a Steel Mill Through Appreciative Inquiry

Ron Fry led this fascinating lecture about Appreciative Inquiry in practice at the Weatherhead School of Management:

Many change efforts fail, stagnate, lose traction,or even disappear. Far too often, participants report that their behavior did not really change; they just added more meetings, trainings and reporting to their schedules. What really causes or creates behavioral change?

The Appreciative Inquiry (AI) approach revolves around a simple idea: building upon the organization's strengths - by providing skills and confidence to develop a framework for planning and implementing change and developing energy for that change. One of the fundamentals of AI success is utilizing the existing talents and resources of the organization to enhance customer satisfaction, business goals, and full engagement.
